Emotion Tracker for Processing Your Feelings and Mood

Do you ever feel like your strong emotions are running the show? Or maybe one day you’re cheerful and energized, and the next you’re anxious and drained. If this sounds familiar, I think you’ll find my Emotion Tracker to be really useful.

Being able to work with—instead of against—your emotions is a game changer. One step to getting to that point is to track your emotions so you can have a clear look at how they’re really showing up and impacting your life. When you can see your emotional patterns you’ll have more power over your behavior.

To that end, I’ve created a simple and effective tool for you to better understand what you’re feeling, when, and why. My Emotion Tracker is available as a free download and you can get started with it in just a few minutes.

Why the Emotion Tracker Can Be So Helpful

When you learn to notice and name your emotions, you gain more power over them. It’s not just about recognizing sadness or stress. It’s about discovering the full spectrum of your emotional world. This awareness can help you:

  • Regulate your emotions more effectively
  • Understand what influences your mood (e.g., sleep, people, habits)
  • Increase your sense of emotional well-being and self-compassion
  • Track progress in therapy, journaling, or personal growth

Why My Emotion Tracker Works for You in the Long and Short Terms

The Emotion Tracker is exactly what it sounds like: a system for noticing and recording your emotions over time. By writing down how you feel throughout the day, you can start to identify patterns, triggers, and even the quiet, positive emotions you might be overlooking, like gratitude, peace, or feeling safe.

I designed this particular tracker to be easy to use and intuitive to follow. It includes:

A Weekly Emotion Tracker  Breaks your day into time blocks: early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, and before bed. This way, you can spot fluctuations in your mood throughout the day.

An Annual Mood Tracker  Lets you log one mood per day using color codes, helping you visualize long-term emotional trends at a glance.

A Rich Emotion Chart  Includes a wide range of possible emotions from cheerful to discouraged, curious to angry. This way, you’re not stuck using the same 3 words to describe complex feelings.

A Page of Short Instructions

Getting Started with the Emotion Tracker

First, download the Emotion Tracker and print it out or save it on your phone. Once you have it ready somewhere accessible, pick the emotions you want to track. Use suggestions from the tracker or come up with your own. Assign a color to each emotion. Record your emotions daily, either throughout the day or by summarizing at the end.

Reflect on the patterns. Are certain emotions more common at specific times? Are you feeling more “gentle” emotions than you realized (see below)?

Pro Tip: Don’t Skip the “Comfortable” Emotions

Emotions like calm, joy, or appreciation can be quieter than stress or frustration. But they matter just as much. When you start to look for these gentle emotions, you may realize they’re showing up more often than you thought.

Remember that tracking your emotions isn’t about labeling days as “good” or “bad.” It’s about getting curious and staying connected to yourself.

I’ve made my Emotion Tracker available as a free download so you can take the first step toward emotional clarity and self-awareness right away.
